Traveling can give numerous benefits to the body: uplifted spirit, happiness, and spirit of adventure. However, it can also be very difficult in terms of diet and exercise when one constantly travels on the road. Here are three tips tokeeping fit while traveling:
1. Understand Your Body
If you’re someone who needs a healthy and filling breakfast each morning, there’s no reason why you should compromise that daily routine while on your travels. So often do I meet people who skip on their most important meal of the day due to convenience or budget, then later binge on an unhealthy meal later on in the day due to feeling fatigue and hungry. Don’t skip that critical meal no matter what, and listen to your body when it tells you to eat. It will keep your energy stable throughout the day, prevent you from unnecessary snacking, and keep your diet in check with your own body.

2. Walk As Much As Possible
That elevator looks tempting, that escalator looks easy, but what’s better for your body is to keep your cardio up and take every advantage of exercise you can get! I’m someone who falls victim to the easy route and very temptingly wants to choose the elevator or escalator, but choosing a pair of stairs at and going at a pace that’s suitable for my physicality makes all the difference when I’ve done nothing but lounging in a city all day or getting off a plane after hours of sitting. An extra set of exercise you can do is jumping jacks or high knees in the morning to get your heart rate up and muscles active before you start the day.Staying fit while traveling and ready to accomplish the day not only puts your body in a better, healthier place, but also your mentality.

3. Portion Your Meals
Generally when we travel, we eat out. Even when we eat in and cook, portion control can be a tricky accomplishment. I find that often at restaurants or cafe, I must be very careful when ordering meals because the portion of what I’ve ordered may come out twice as much of I wanted to eat. Not overeating is a key element tokeep fit while traveling. We generally want to order that delicious, delectable meal after a day of exploring, but don’t want to waste food when it becomes too much or finish the entire meal without realizing how much quantity we’ve just eaten. Ways to portion your meal can be either ordering smaller portions such as appetizers or starters as your main meal, sharing a dish with someone and splitting your portion down to half size, or asking for a takeaway box before you start eating your meal and dividing half of your food to take home and half to be consumed at the restaurant. Being mentally aware is the key to understanding portion control, and making the effort to eat a meal that’s healthy and proportionately due to your body size will keep that extra weight off when you travel.
