Metrosafe X is a new collection that takes recycled plastic bottles and turns them into anti-theft bags geared toward city life. They’re durable, packed with organization and loaded with security features. But, what kind of person would use them, how did the range come about, and what does each bag do? We sat down with the collection’s head designerMarcus Johnsson to find out all of this and more. Here is our deep dive into the Metrosafe X anti-theft bags.

First, Marcus, what kind of person would love Metrosafe X bags?

In short, modern urban men. Young professionals. It’s not for the youngest young, but probably more the upper part of Millennials and Gen Xers like me. They’re made for the gadget-savvy person who likes anti-theft features. There’s also well thought-out organization and a flirt with utility styling in the coated zippers and molle strap (perfect for hanging a bike padlock on etc).

Think an after-work beer with the bag securely locked up, while you sit back and enjoy spending some time with your friends. This guy might be the partner of a woman who likes Citysafe CX bags.

How did the range come about?

Metrosafe LS has been a staple and bestseller for us for ages. It’s functional, well organized, and does the job, but looks a little stodgy. You buy them because you need the bag and its anti-theft features, not necessarily the style. With Metrosafe X, we set out to make a series of bags you wanted because they look great, and where the anti-theft features are a great bonus. It could even be that bag that opens up Pacsafe to people we’ve never appealed to.

What problems do Metrosafe X bags solve?

They’re the ultimate work/leisure bags. The border between work and play is blending, and the time spent between home and work is more than just a commute. You might go for dinner with your wife, meet friends, or sit in a cafe working on that novel that never seems to get finished. So, there’s a need for a bag that both shows you’re professional as well as signaling that you’re pretty laid back too.

Of course, they’re great to travel with too,. They have luggage slip throughs, easy access to passports and lockablilty when you’re in unknown locations.

There are also small details like the key clip being attached to a longer strap, so you actually can use the keys without unhooking them. The more you use the bags, the more you’ll discover how well thought through they are.

How hard was it to source material made from recycled plastic bottles that met Pacsafe’s quality standards? What makes this material unique?

Not only do we have high-quality standards, but we also have high standards when it comes to the materials being produced under the right circumstances. We only use raw material suppliers that have their goods Global Recycle Standard certified, so we know that the recycled bottles are legit. The fabrics are Bluesign approved to ensure the highest sustainability standards in the industry. Recycled materials are getting more and more sought after, so it’s important that you know what you’re buying.

How many bottles does each bag take to make? What are the features of each?

To cover that aspect, here’s a full breakdown of each bag below…
